I watched every moment of the Inauguration. It was amazing, as is Obama!

I know. Me too. I watched the Inauguration event on HBO performed on Mon at the Lincoln Memorial. I really wept. It was so powerfully moving. Blacks and whites performing together for Obama with an audiance of several 100,000 people cheering on. I was filled with Joy when Pete Seeger appeared on stage at the end. A 90 yo non-violent activist from the 50s and 60s, banned from the TV/radio airwaves, appearing with Bruce Springsteen. What a joyful moment! Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen at Obama's Inauguration concert at the Lincoln Memorial 1/19/09 Pete Seeger, 1971 Pete Seeger appearing before the House of Un-American Activities Committee in 1955. Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, circa 1940.

Obama takes presidential oath _ again
Obama takes presidential oath _ again 23 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts has administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time just to be on the safe side. The unusual step came after Roberts flubbed the oath a bit on Tuesday, causing Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution. White House counsel Greg Craig said Obama took the oath from Roberts again out of an "abundance of caution." The chief justice and the president handled the matter privately in the Map Room on Wednesday night. Obama takes oath again after inauguration mistake guardian.co.uk, UK - 6 minutes ago WASHINGTON, Jan 21 (Reuters) - US President Barack Obama was administered the oath of office a second time on Wednesday at the White House because a word was out of sequence when he was sworn in on Tuesday. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to the president in front of reporters. The White House counsel said in a statement read by a spokesman the oath was administered a second time out of an "abundance of caution." (Reporting by Jeff Mason; editing by Todd Eastham)

Even those who didn't vote for him, and perhaps were reluctant to put any sort of trust or faith in him following the election....I think that the events of the past few days, and the tone of his speeches as well as his first few decisions made in office thus far, should give us all reason to have hope for a better executive branch and a simply better government.
Better is a relative thing, of course, and I hardly expect anything remotely approaching a miracle -- I'm not one of those people so gaa-gaa over Obama that I think that everything will be sugarplums and lollipops from here on out -- but I do see much reason for hope that at least we'll see a marked improvement not merely over the previous presidency but over all preceding presidencies. Why you ask? Set all else aside, and I'm very impressed by the new Chief Technology Officer position at the White House, the new Whitehouse.gov, and the fact that the President stood up for keeping his Blackberry! I don't much like blackberries, even the new touch-screen Storm; I'm an iPhone 3G man myself, being an Apple partisan (though a cross-platform & UNIX/Linux/BSD user on my professional side) as long as there has been an Apple & all.....but I'm impressed that our President is so plugged into the human element of modern technology/networking that he pushed for the most secure, encrypted, pimped out smartphone ever built! I'm sure it's no off the shelf blackberry and that his usage of it is not as free-wheeling as I can be downloading privately developed App Store IPAs (iDevice Platform on ARM processor) with my iPhone.....but still, impressive to me. It all speaks to a Presidency that will be open in ways that transcend party lines, and which connects with the America that we will need to be in order to get back up off our knees and reach for the stars again, IMHO! ![]()

A fair number of people, like my conservative minded friends here and on Twitter (#TCOT), may react to the above post thinking that I don't see the various issues of concern that the new administration's emerging policies and proposals present.....for one thing, I'm as troubled as any hard-core right-winger by the democrats' proposal to spend ("stimulate") our way out of this Depression.
I think that tax cuts are more likely to help those who really need it most in this economy -- those who had a job last year, or the year before....who no longer have that job, but must still bear the tax burden of it. Particularly if they were self-employed and didn't electively withhold their own taxes/pay them quarterly, et cetera. Deepening the deficit really burns me deep in my libertarian bones, and our national debt is already so insane.....I loathe the idea of throwing money down a (pardon the pun!) black hole. So far, all the obscene spending "stimulus" doesn't seem to have helped matters much; if anything, I think it has proven the pointlessness and impotence of such obsolete, downright ancient economic policies and we need *new* solutions to the current problems -- not old ones that have proven themselves to be broken just as much of existing/prevailing business & economic theory has. So, don't get me wrong.....I'm no blue-blooded Obama sycophant. I just like a lot of what I'm seeing, and it gives me hope that at least some of the rest of it will be similarly bipartisan, open-minded, and truly progressive without descending into being merely capital-p "Progressive."

If 19 of 20 top economists (left/right/center) say that this stimulus plan is essential to get our country moving again, then who am I to argue with so many experts?
