MOSCOW -- A woman who died in a Moscow apartment lay undiscovered for eight years before neighbors reported they had not seen her "for a while."

Vera Barinova, who had no relatives, collapsed while eating a meal in her Moscow flat, the London Sun reported.

Police officers found her mummified body slumped over a newspaper dated 1996.

Authorities are trying to determine why it took so long for neighbors to show enough concern to go to police.

yeah....i almost died a lil over a year ago and my cats would have eaten me. i would hope that i would be enough for them until the neighbors complained of the stench and someone could rescue them. only bad part about that is losing my cats

When I build/buy my own home in a couple of years, I plan to have a "kitty escape route" in case of fire or other emergency in which the humans may not be able to help the cats. Basically, a series of cat doors so there's no way the cats can get trapped.

If I died, and eating my body was the only way for the cats to survive, I'd want them to do it. I wonder though, if they'd even try it before they got truly desperate; I've trained my cats very well and I don't know about the females, but my male would probably be too freaked out to try taking a bite out of me....

theres an ogrish post about this a while back.....and old woman that died and her cats ate her face. they didnt take much.....less than i would expect. perhaps they have a way of knowing its not "you" anymore but just meat. or would they eat "you" if they were hungry enough? i know dogs would....hell, wolves used to eat people all the time.

Livvy is permanently banned outside. I wasn't able to forgive her my favorite shoes.

Besides, I have 7 cats who hang around now thanks to my kids feeding them :evil:

She is fixed. And up to date on shots. The strays aren't really strays. They're neighborhood cats.

She is fixed. And up to date on shots. The strays aren't really strays. They're neighborhood cats.then see how many you can carry at once. i think 4 or 5 was my maximum before they squirmed out of my grip.
