My grandmother passed yesterday evening as a result of complications of congestive heart failure.
Sunday (most likely), my fiancee and I will attend our ninth funeral of the year.
At some point I hope to write up something more definitive about her life and the parts of my family history that most directly relate to her....but for now I just wanted to let everyone know that I may be offline for 1-2 days for the funeral.
Rest in Peace, Nana.

Dear Exit, I am so sorry that you lost your grandmother. I hope that the time you spent with your family was very special. Especially at Christmastime, when both blessings and losses are magnified and felt more deeply. My sympathy and thoughts go out to you and your family. XOXO, al-C.
Very sorry to hear.
My condolences to you and your family.

Exit, I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Losing a family member is never easy, especially during the holidays.
I lost my grandfather right after Christmas last year, so I know some of what you're feeling.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Thanks so much for your kind words and well-wishing, everyone (including those who haven't posted in this thread but rather reached me by PM, IM, email, or IRC).
The funeral was amazing. I took to the pulpit for a minute or so to thank my grandmother for the many vacations I spent up in Winthrop where she lived, the friends I made there and how much of my growing up I did there.
I got in touch with some old childhood friends from the area, and met a great many family members I hadn't seen in years.
There was no actual interr-ment as part of the ceremonies, which were designed by my grandmother before she began having trouble with brain function in the past year or so. The whole thing was very remarkable, and by far the most "light," pleasant funeral I've attended this year (out of a total of nine).
Definitely a memory I'll carry with me all of my days....
