View Full Version : Brett Hull on the lost of NHL Hockey Season

I got this off of the Chicago Black Hawks website.
Poehler: "It must be breaking your heart to miss a whole season.''
Hull: "I really miss playing. Scoring goals in air hockey just isn't the same.''
Poehler: "Do you think the NHL will be able to regain popularity after a year off?''
Hull: "I think with the basketball riots [and] the steroids in baseball, I think hockey is looking classier all the time.''
Poehler: "Brett, you're Canadian, what do you think of this new gay marriage law passing in Canada?''
Hull: "That's what happens in Canada when there's no hockey. Guys have more time to hang out, talk about their feelings; next thing you know, they're in love with each other. I've got nothing against it, but I'd rather be playing hockey.''
Poehler: "You heard it here first, folks: Brett Hull would rather play hockey than marry a dude.''
hockey is like braveheart on ice.

Shut The Puck Up
(Words & Music Ó 2004 Pete Cugno)
This isn’t how it’s supposed to be
A winter without hockey
Is like a beer fridge without any beer
It’s just so empty and cold
Because our season was stole(n)
For reasons that are not very clear
Well the players don’t want no salary cap
The owners all cry, “we’re poor!”
But it’s hard to feel sorry for either sob story
When I can’t even afford tickets anymore
Chorus: So shut the puck up
Bring back our game
All you owners and players do
Is whine and complain
Hey if you can’t make ends meet
On all the money you earn
Then you should get out of hockey
And give someone else a turn
And shut the puck up
For years my wife and me
Watched the hockey on TV
And got it on as much as we could
Yes every Saturday night
I’d put my helmet on tight
And give her “two minutes for looking so good”
But now I don’t get no action
My wife she’s never in the mood
And I just don’t get the same satisfaction
Out of watching Jeopardy in the nude
Chorus: So shut the puck up
Enough is enough
Why don’t you try digging ditches
If you think your jobs are so tough
Or try teaching a classroom
Or saving a life
Or if you really want tough
Take a body check from my wife
And shut the puck up
From the diehard fans to the concession stands
To the sports bars – they’re all out of luck
Yes the business is down in every hockey town
Mon ami - this lockout she suck!
But it don’t stop there you bunch of greedy millionaires
Oh no - it’s much worse than you think
This year my friend Tony has to drive his Zamboni
On the ice on my backyard rink
Chorus: So shut the puck up
Don’t get your nose out of joint
And throw away the whole season
Just so you can make a point
You know that sooner or later
Both sides will have to agree
It’s like a rectal exam - get it over with quickly
And shut the puck up
We all miss our teams
You’ve turned out the lights
On every little boy’s dreams
Call it a strike or a lockout
Call it what you wish
I call it a kick in the ass to the fans who made you rich
So SHUT THE PUCK UP!

LMAO, Renjax! Thanks for sharing that, made me laugh. Damn, I miss my freaking hockey. Winter just isn't the same without it. Of course, the AHL games we go to aren't as exciting as the Lowell debacle on Saturday night. Damn, I miss bench clearing brawls, yelling at the refs.....
Which team do you root for?

Did you listen to the song? I thought it would cheer you up.

We have only minor league hockey here in Austin but at least it's hockey.

Yeah, we have the Monarchs in NH and Pirates in ME. However, I am a Providence Bruins fan. Don't want to see no stinking Kings or Caps prospects, thankyou very much.
Damn CBA conflict is back right where it started. Bettman turned down the NHLPA's offer (as though any of us expected him to accept it).

Every so often, the Portland Pirates do kick some butt....I never get around to going to the Cumberland County Civic Center to watch them, though....

I love Brett Hull, always been one of my favorites.
I miss hockey. I haven't had a single occassion to wear my Canes sweater this season (not like they gave me lots of reasons last year, but y'all don't go there  )

If there is no hockey this year, 2004-05, there will be no hockey next year, 2005-6, either. The players need to come to terms with what the NHL is asking because they will be asking the same thing next September if it's not settled by mid January, 2005.
I blame the owners for letting the players contracts get this huge in the first place and I blame the players for their greed.

Todd cut a deal and won't have to go to trial over his neck breaking punch.

I still say they will play for the cup this season.
I miss you lady.
Why are you banned from IH..?
How is your friend doing..?

I hope they do play this season. I really miss NHL hockey. I love the AHL, but it isn't the same, not to mention, we don't get a lot of televised games here of the AHL.
I miss you, too, kid. My friend is doing ok, still has her moments. Not that any time of year is easy for a loss like hers, but right before the holidays is really tough. The kids are just devastated. Her youngest thought he was going to come back, he didn't understand that Daddy can't come home, poor baby. Thanks for asking. :)

There are times when I am tempted to follow the NHL's example and stick my head in the sand for a year or two.... :?
