LOL for me it is about a cat's sense of dignity and aloofness. they do not kiss arse for anything. Treat a cat badly and it will never trust you whereas a dog will lick the hand that beats it. I like cats because they are rarely owned unless they own themselves. They are independant and if one is your friend then you have earned that animal's affection.
I wished people could be more like cats. I was away for a couple of days on business so i will acknowledge the litter box...crikey what a pong lol.

RE: cat jungles-Those are so easy to make and cats love them. I built a cat nest at the top of a scratching pole covered in old shag. My cat just loves it.

I have a kitty question for all you manly mans here.

Now, I'm not a newbie in the cat world. Not even close. When I lived near the middle of nowhere near a lake I had over 20 cats at one time. I just couldn't say 'no' to a stray. (The over-20 period didn't last long because I found homes for most of them. I just kept my favorite 8.)

Anyway, I rescued a kitten a couple of years ago. He'd been dropped off on a vacant lot behind my hubby's work place and spent at least three days wandering alone back there in the woods. Hubby managed to catch the wild little bugger one day, brought him home to me, and the little thing was so weak he literally sat on my lap snoozing all day. I watched him closely and took him outside several times but he went over 24 hours without urinating! That is when I realized how stressed and weak he had become from his ordeal in the woods behind hubby's work.

I was ready to take him to a vet, but then he finally urinated after about 27-28 hours. So, a week of TLC had him seeming right as rain.

He's got a bad habit, though, and I wonder if it could be a bit of brain damage due to being dehydrated when he was that sweet little 6-week-old kitten. When I pet him he'll take a few happily and purr and rub his head up against my hand, but then he'll roll over on his back, grab my hand and bite the crap out of me! I figured it was a kind of play instinct and he was treating me like another kitten. I taught him to knock off the really rough stuff, but here we are 2 1/2 years later and he still will turn around and bite me. Now I look at them as love bites, (in his mind, anyway), but I can't get him to completely stop that. The result is that I don't pet him more than a few strokes at a time, because when he gets to enjoying it too long he'll grab my hand and bite (though now the bites are much softer and he releases sooner, etc.)

Any words of wisdom for me? I don't know if this is typical behavior for his type of cat (he apparently came from a farm -- we call them barn cats), or if he suffered brain damage from the dehydration.

if the bites are gentle then it's playing and more predominant in a tom over the queen. Male cats generally are more gregarious and interact with humans in a rougher fashion. They will also rub their teeth and gums against you and that can nip if they do it rough (They are actually scenting you). An intended vicious bite is usually accompanied by a growl or a low whining noise and the ears are either all the way forward or flat back on the head. If the ears are normal or out to the side and the whiskers all splayed wide then the cat is playing rough.

Toms are usually more affectionate than female cats as well and prone to playing "hide n seek", tag etc with humans over females (unless the female has been played with since she was very little). Males just pick up on the games a lot faster. Males are also usually more accepting of strange kittens.

There are some great books on cat behaviour and I have them all lol. The Enclopedia of the Cat is probably the best.
Has some cute little folk lore and myths in it as well such as:

With the earth still surrounded and covered in water, Moses was worried that the grain would all be consumed by the voracious little rodents. Yep! I learned to first put my hand in front of his face, rather than reach from the top or behind him. I put my hand in front of him and he closes his eyes and rubs the side of his face against my hand.

That's a good suggestion to help them get to know one another. I have generally sat between two cats and pet them both and encourage them by giving lots of attention to them the first couple of days.

The shelter I give a little money to is a no-kill organization and they're the first that came to mind to visit to find another cat, but there is a shelter in the city that does euthanize so I am inclined to go there and choose an older cat that is on borrowed time. I'd probably keep the cats separated for a couple of days if I get an older one, to give the new cat time to get used to the people first.

I'll have to think it over a bit more.

I've just become acquainted with this breed of cat. It's called a Red Seal or Flame Point Siamese. Their temperament is amazingly gentle and non aggressive. One friend of mine has a male just like this one.

Klepto cat suspect in garden-glove thefts

A pink-and-white gardening glove was missing Thursday morning from Jeannine Goche's front porch. But there was absolutely no mystery about who had taken it. Willy, the cat who loves gloves, had struck again.

"It has to be him," said Goche, an attorney. "I've heard about him."

As if the gardeners of Pelham don't have enough to worry about, with the rocky soil and the slugs and the big trees casting too much shade, a feline felon has been sneaking into their back yards and carrying off gardening gloves.

Goche's flower-patterned number may soon take its place on the clothesline that's strung across the front fence at Willy's home, which he shares with Jennifer and Dan Pifer, their 19-month-old son Hudson and a mutt named Peanut Chew.

Above the line is a sign that says, in words and pictures, "Our cat is a glove snatcher. Please take these if yours."

On Thursday morning, nine pairs of gardening gloves and five singles were strung up, nicely framed by the Pifers' flourishing tomato and basil plants. Willy, looking innocent, was playing with a beetle under the Subaru in the driveway and occasionally dashing after Hudson.

"This all started about the time people began working in their gardens, I guess March or April," Jennifer Pifer said. "Willy would just show up with a glove, or we'd see them on the front steps. I guess it's better than if he was bringing home dead birds."

A friend, Claudia Bonci, said she was in the Pifers' kitchen recently and had noticed a single gardening glove on the sidewalk.

"Jennifer was telling me all about how Willy was bringing home all these gloves, and there was a small pile of them outside the door, and then here comes the cat with a glove in its mouth, proud as could be, like he was giving me a gift."

Some of the gloves really are gift-worthy.

"A lot of these looked brand new," said Pifer. "Some of them are really nice."

She doesn't know how far afield Willy goes to find a glove, but she has learned it takes him two trips to bring home a matched pair.

Willy, born to a stray last spring and taken in by the Pifers as a newborn, stays out some nights but seems to assemble his collection in daytime raids.

"Mostly it happens on weekends, I guess when people are out gardening," Pifer said. "Can't you just imagine people saying, `The gloves were right here, where'd they go?'"

John Cassone, who lives and gardens across the street, said he isn't missing any gloves. He uses "the big, heavy leather kind" and figures Willy, a wiry type, isn't strong enough to drag them away.

Guess again: There's a pair of the big, heavy leather kind among Willy's trophies.

Willy couldn't care less about the gloves after they're captured. On Thursday he could not be enticed into a grab-the-glove game.

In winter, when gardening gloves are hard to find, Willy switches to his offseason prey, dirty socks, which he brings from the laundry room.

"We find them in the hallway, on the stairs," she said. "I used to think, `Oh, I must have dropped it on the way down.' But now I know better."

Despite his criminal nature, neighbors get a kick out of Willy. Cassone said the cat likes to accompany the mailman up and down the block, all the way to each front door. Willy also likes to climb trees and bat at the heads of people below.

Since Pifer grows flowers and vegetables and herbs herself, isn't she tempted to make use of the endless supply of garden gloves that arrive at her doorstep free, shipping included?

"No," she said, a bit sadly. "I do a lot of gardening but I don't use gloves."
