January 24, 2005 -- PROM princess or porn queen?

This prom dress is so skimpy, even the designer's CEO wouldn't let his teenage daughter wear it. But the dangerously revealing gown, prominently advertised in Seventeen Prom, YM Prom and Teen Prom, and on sale in a Midtown shop, is a top seller for the company this season.

"I was shocked when I first saw it, but now it's one of our top 20 dresses nationwide," says Nick Yeh, the CEO of Xcite, the Stafford, Texas, company that designed the dress and some 200 other styles this season.
"I have a 15-year-old daughter and, no, I would not recommend she wear this dress.

"As a businessman," he adds, "I'm not judging what a teenager should wear or not wear. It's up to the parents to decide for their own children."
In fact, some shops in smaller cities require girls to bring in parental permission slips to buy the dress, Yeh told The Post.

At Elite Designs, a formal shop in Midtown that has the barely-there gown on a mannequin, owner Surinder Nagpal says, "We've gotten a few calls about that dress. Originally, I wasn't going to stock [it], but my sales associate told me that girls would want it, so we're stocking it in black and red."

That is just disgusting. No way does either of my daughters bring home a trashy outfit like that, Prom dress, or not.

Some things are better left to the imagination.

The understated cross between the firm, partially exposed, bouncy mammalian protruberances is an interesting choice of fashion accessories.

If I had a daughter would I let her wear that to the prom? Hell no.

Nonnononononononono!!! I don't think I'd want to be associated with anyone who even OWNED that dress.... unless of course she was my wife and very good looking.... :P

no, I wouldn't let my child wear that if I had a daughter, nor would I want my girlfriend to wear it either -- unless it was in the privacy of the house.

I don't consider myself a prude, but I don't think women's fashions should show us everything God gave them. I like some mystery. the way a blouse falls over the curve of a boob is tantalizing, much more so than a complete reveal.

Next year's prom dress is going to be just a micro-mini skirt with Janet Jackson style nipple shields.

Somehow this skimpy prom dress thing reminded me of something. I vaguely remember a few years ago about a guy who got banned from his prom because he wore a kilt. Anyone else remember this? :?

okay, now THAT is outrageous. It's one thing to wear something like that for a private date, with a decent guy who you're in love with, at say 18-20+.

It's entirely another to be 17, and in public. Eeek!

I can't figure out why anyone would want to wear it. It's just ugly. I don't care who you are. You could put Cathrine Zeta jones in that dress and people would be saying "Hey look at that gorgeous woman in that ridiculous dress!" I really don't see what the big deal is. Sure it's revealing. It reveals that a person has a horrible sense of fashion!

Cisco_KidI kinda agree. Those straps make it look awful. You might as well wear nothing at all on top or at least a tube top.

Greenie for you. Oh wait, I can't give out greenies. :(

Number one: that dress is ugly as sin. Not to mention..how would you dance in it? Unless you have the dress glued to them..
Number two: I have 2 girls and NO they wouldn't wear it.
Number three: Any parent that would buy that for their daughter needs their head examined.
